Dean of School, Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Greenwich

 

 

Key current roles:

1.     Inaugural Chair of the BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT) Academy of Computing, the first Learned Society in the UK for Computing, Vice-President and Trustee of the BCS.

2.     Chair of the Communications Committee of PITCOM (UK’s all party Parliamentary IT Committee).

3.     Joint leader of the CPHC IT policy and HE computing management research group.

4.     Joint Director of the eCentre which is a joint research group between the University of Greenwich and the University of East London. The University of Greenwich part of the eCentre has three sub-research groups and over 50 members across the university.

BSc (Hons) Computing Science, first class honours 1986

 

Research  and Enterprise Projects

Two key research areas: e-learning and software engineering.

Partner in three European funded projects.

Regular reviewer for a range of conferences and workshops, conference and committee member

Currently supervising 8 PhD students.

Range of consultancy and research projects: worked with Ernst & Young, Kent County Council, Lewisham Council, Kent Senior Managers Network. Consultant to Dutch Women in Information Technology, G4S. Involved in various our projects: working with HAFTrust, a not-for-profit organisation that is developing a platform that will connect consumers and companies that wish to offset carbon with farmers in the developing world who will tend trees planted to capture carbon;  developing a system to increase compliance with community penalties and post-custody licences by young offenders through the use of handheld devices and mobile technology to prompt, reward and engage young offenders; and to deliver educational and information packages to young offenders. Currently coordinator for an EU FP7 project on the use of games technology to provide an advanced training environment for crisis scenarios.
