FLOWVIS : The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) FLOW-VISualisation tool

written by J.Ewer and Dr M.K.Patel

FLOWVIS has the following features / capabilities:-

  • Intuitive view selection using 3D rotated domain, zoom and perspective view.
  • Up to 4 different cases can be accessed simultaneously.
  • Graphical User Interface (with WYSIWYG support) tailored to CFD users understanding.
  • Powerful redraw facilities with print to file and screen capture as required.
  • Graph utility with visual data selection.
  • Supports structured, cylindrical polar, body fitted (and block structured meshes - NEWEST VERSION).
  • Support for many existing CFD code output formats (Phoenics PHI, Fluent, e.t.c.).
  • Developers can provide support for third-party CFD codes. Please contact the developers for details.
  • FLOWVIS runs on personal computers using DOS, Windows NT and Win 95.
  • FLOWVIS now also runs on unix workstations by Sun and Silicon Graphics.
  • Demonstrators are available now (See below) and further info is available from the developers

  • The FLOWVIS main screen showing menu and split screen with multiple cases.

Sample GIF images of FLOWVIS data visualisations

  • Flow around a cylinder 2D Cylindrical-polar
  • Fire in a room 3D Regular-mesh
  • Flow around a curved duct 2D Body-fitted-mesh
  • Flow in a jet engine 2D Cylindrical-polar
  • Smoke plume from a chimney 3D Regular-mesh
  • Flow in a turbine 2D Cylindrical-polar
  • The FLOWVIS for DOS demonstrator

The demonstrator of FLOWVIS can be unzipped onto a DOS based PC-386 or better.
The full demo installation requires 5 MB of free disk space. Please read the installation notes before attempting to install the FLOWVIS demonstrator.

There is one vital modification required to a batch file that must be made before you can run FLOWVIS. This is a change to the "FLOWVIS.BAT" file in the FLOW_DEM directory. The "FLODRIVE" environment variable must be set to point to the drive where you have installed FLOWVIS. We apologise for this inconvenience but this was the simplest WWW installation we could produce at short notice.

  • FLOWVIS installation notes as raw text. Also includes feature list and command options.
  • FLOWVIS demo as a self-extracting zip file with directories N.B. Use -D when extracting.
  • uuencoded FLOWVIS demo as above for places with binary access problems
  • FLOWVIS information
