Peter J. Lawrence's Info Page:
I am currently employed as a Principal Software Engineer and Reader in Computational Pedestrian Dynamics at the University of Greenwich sponsored by the CAA. My work involves the software development and management of Exodus, an egress modelling program for the evacuation of people from enclosures such as an aircraft or supermarket. My duties include the supervision of doctoral students and research assistants.
The package Exodus has been developed using object-oriented techniques in C++ and is portable across platforms types from PC to UNIX. Exodus is a commercially available package with distributors throughout the world. The graphical user interface for the expert system, which is used to design the model's geometry, has been implemented in MS Windows and Motif. This research project has involved the various disciplines of Software Engineering, Expert Systems, Computer Graphics and User Interface design.
My PhD research focused upon the problem of generating unstructured grids over complex three dimensional geometries. The purpose of this is to aid the engineer in the development of mathematical models of structures, such as part of an aircraft. I have looked extensively at varies methods which attempt to automate this process and have developed my own technique, based upon recursive domain bisection, which has produced some very promising results.
